Disco era telecom “known flaw” poses current threat to your money and more

A known flaw in the messaging system in Signalling System No. 7 (SS7) protocol developed in the 1970s which allows networks around the world to interoperate, has provided the hole for hackers to bypass 2-factor authentication and transfer money from customers’ bank accounts.  After stealing banking credentials, Cyber criminals were able to leverage the vulnerability to intercept banking passcodes via phone numbers and SMS messages. In this podcast, Justin Jett, Director of Audit and Compliance of Plixer outlines the nature of the threat, and discusses how network managers and other UC managers can detect and mitigate the problem. We learn how criminals can steal directly from your bank account, rob your personal identity from health records or even compromise national security. Our podcast outlines steps that can be taken to prevent this problem.
