One of the less reported and discussed impacts of the decline in employment in certain industrial, resource and mineral extraction industries is that there is an emerging shortage of skilled labor in many fields. As these heavy industry operations were able to take advantage of automation and other measures to trim crew sizes, the workers that remained were the most tenured and the most skilled. Now, many of those workers are approaching a part of their career where it may no longer be optimal for them to go into the mine, or to the end of the logging road. Hardhat Wearables a division of Priologic Software Inc. (https://priologic.com)has launched a localized collaboration platform for teams working on remote logging, oil and gas, construction and utilities worksites often with little or no Internet connectivity. The Hardhat Connect system consists of a local ruggedized collaboration server that is mounted in the crew truck or portable trailer with network gear that can penetrate buildings or forests. Hardhat Connect delivers audio, video, screen sharing and telestration between team members wearing Head Mounted devices like Realwear's HMT-1 (Head Mounted Tablet), Fujitsu's Head Mounted Display, or carrying most recent Android devices, PC or Mac computers. In this podcast, Doug Pelton discusses how he is developing answers for these niche industries whose needs have been ignored by the larger IT and UC development communities. Pelton's Proligic is known for its work on new an innovative ideas. Visit https://hardhatwearables.com/
